We all know that water is important, but you have probably only think about it once you are already thirsty. Unfortunately, by the time you are thirsty its already too late.

With any luck, summer will be here before we know it. During this time outdoor activities increase and temperatures rise. In order to be prepared for these changes, increase your intake of high quality H2O now as most americans already aren't getting enough. The list that follows is a compilation of benefits found from across the internet of the benefits of better hydration.

  1. According to a report released by the Food and Nutrition Board, the general recommendations for women is 2.7 liters (91 ounces) of water per day, and men need approximately 3.7 liters (125 ounces) daily. - See more HERE:
  2. In chronic dehydration, the thirst mechanism becomes weak called hypodypsia. This decreased intensity is often mistaken for the feeling of being hungry.
  3. Even mild dehydration will slow down a persons basal metabolic rate. The opposite is also true, Increased hydration leads to more calories being burned at rest. This was demonstrated in a study conducted here at the University of Utah.
  4. Drinking a glass of water in place of a late night snack may result in decreased hunger pangs.
  5. Dehydration, or a drop in bodies water content, can trigger decreased short-term memory, difficulty solving basic mathematic equations and inability to focus on computer or printed tasks.
  6. Preliminary research suggests that 8-10 glasses of water a day may significantly ease back and joint pain.
  7. Your muscles contain 75 percent water, same as the amount in your brain. Fat contains only 10 percent water. This is less than bone, which contains 22 percent water.
